Description:

Leeds City College became a reality on 1st April 2009, following the merger of three of the city’s leading FE colleges: Leeds College of Technology, Leeds Thomas Danby and Park Lane College Leeds and Keighley.

Although the college is one of the newest colleges in the UK, it has a long history dating back to 1824, as well as an established reputation for high quality courses across a wide range of subjects.

The current college turnover makes Leeds City College one of the largest and most influential colleges in the country, with over 55,000 students, and approximately 2,000 employees.

Leeds City College has five main campuses across the city and beyond, known as Horsforth Campus, Keighley Campus, Park Lane Campus, Technology Campus and Thomas Danby Campus. They also operate out of close to 30 other venues.

Each of our campuses boasts excellent on-site teaching facilities - from training salons and construction workshops to dance studios, print rooms, kitchens and life-size aircraft cabins – to provide students with a real taste of industry.

Leeds City College offers a diverse curriculum, covering almost all subject areas, with academic and vocational qualifications from basic skills and apprenticeships to foundation degrees. Courses are designed to suit the needs of everyone from pre and post 16s to adult learners and employers.

The College now holds National Skills Academy status for a number of other key specialisms including Financial Services, Hospitality, Drink & Food Manufacture, Sport & Fitness, Retail, and Sports Community Enterprise.

News & Events

Leeds City College became the twentieth and final Founder College of the National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural Skills in December 2009.

Ian Bond, Director of Increasing Participation and Engagement, said: “Becoming a Founder College is extremely exciting and we are delighted that the high standard of our work in the creative industries has been recognised in this way.

“Our Creative Arts, Media and ICT departments have gone from strength to strength over recent years owing to the demand for these types of courses. Our facilities have therefore been enhanced to now include a working theatre and box office, TV and radio studios, digital editing and Mac ICT facilities, a sprung-floor dance studio, photography and developing rooms, to name but a few. Sector demands have also required curriculum diversity, and so we have now introduced new courses such as digital marketing.”

Peter Roberts, Principal and Chief Executive of Leeds City College, added:
“Leeds City College teaches hundreds of performing arts, media, dance and fine art students at various locations across the city; we are committed to promoting the arts in the region but especially the vibrant arts industry in Leeds.”
