Continued Professional Development Framework
Continued Professional Development (CPD) covers any activity designed to improve an individual’s attributes, knowledge, understanding and skills. It supports individual needs and improves professional practice. There are many possible sources of CPD, delivered in a variety of ways, for example, courses at colleges, mentoring or e-learning.
The NSA's CPD framework is not a new programme of training opportunities. It will provide a framework and central place where NSA members can find out about and access existing training provision, and understand how such training meets national standards in areas such as quality and health & safety.
Participation in NSA-accredited training will help new recruits, employees and freelancers to show evidence of their training and experience and so progress within the industry. The NSA is committed to ensuring that all employees in its membership can access relevant continued professional development.
Any CPD programme should cover:
A) Competence in the work role
- Filling gaps and deficiencies in performance
- Up-skilling to meet changing demands and working practices
- Certification and re-certification to meet regulatory requirements
- Career development
B) Knowledge and understanding related to the work role
- Filling gaps and deficiencies in knowledge and understanding
- Responding to changes in the operational, technological, regulatory, market and organisational environment
- Expanding and broadening knowledge to improve judgement and develop expertise
- Sharing and comparing knowledge and understanding with others
C) Personal development
- Addressing issues related to confidence, attitude, motivation and behaviour
- Improving ability to deal with relationships, communications and stress
- Develop personal growth and contribution as a professional
