Brian Kelly

Brian is the Training Officer for the Trade Union, BECTU. He has been a union member, activist, officer and educator for over 30 years and is a passionate advocate of accessible and high quality adult education.

Brian studied at Ruskin College and the University of Oxford, where he graduated in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE). He has been a visiting university lecturer, a TUC and WEA tutor and a union education officer at MSF/amicus (now UNITE). He was formerly Director of the Jim Conway Foundation, an educational charity working in Eastern Europe.

At BECTU Brian has national responsibility for the development of the union's volunteer representatives and activists. He also manages externally funded projects and actively lobbies for and supports vocational training opportunities for the union's members in theatre & live events, film, TV and radio. Brian is chair of the Federation of entertainment Unions Training Committee, board member and chair of FT2 (Film & TV Freelance Training) and sits on the Skillset boards for Wales and Scotland. He is also a board member of the National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural Skills and is on the board of Skillscene.
